The decline in cucumber production every year is caused by less intensive and
efficient cultivation, so technology is needed that can increase yields such as the
application of growth regulators (ZPT) and the use of superior varieties. This study
aims to determine the application time of paclobutrazol and superior varieties on
the growth and production of cucumber plants. This research was conducted at
Jalan Galang, Pagar Merbau III Village, Lubuk Pakam District, Deli Serdang
Regency and Biotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of
North Sumatra from August 2024 to October 2024, using a group randomized
design with 2 factors. The first factor was paclobutrazol application time consisting
of 7 DAT, 14 DAT, 21 DAT, 28 DAT, and the second factor was the use of varieties
consisting of Monas F1, Komandan F1, and Zatavy F1. The results showed that
different application times of paclobutrazol and varieties caused significant
differences in growth and production. The treatment without paclobutrazol
application (W0) can increase the growth of plant height and number of leaves of
cucumber plants. The treatment of paclobutrazol application at 21 DAT (W3)
showed an increase in production parameters, namely the number of fruits, fruit
length, fruit diameter, and fruit weight. The Zatavy F1 variety gave the best results
in plant height, number of leaves, and fruit weight, while the Monas F1 variety
showed a faster age of female flower emergence and harvest age as well as higher
fruit size (number of fruits, fruit length, and fruit diameter). The interaction between
paclobutrazol application time and the use of several varieties gave a significant
effect on leaf area, chlorophyll b and total. Paclobutrazol application time 28 DAT
(W4) and the Komandan F1 variety gave higher leaf area results, while the
treatment combination of application time 21 DAT (W3) had higher chlorophyll b
and total chlorophyll b.
