    Abstract
Inflammation is a complex biological response to injury or infection involving various molecular, cellular and vascular mechanisms. Infected tissue will be phagocytosed by macrophages. Macrophages are antibody cells that can phagocytose microorganisms that enter the body. Treatment from natural ingredients has the potential to be developed as an anti-inflammatory with the aim of preventing side effects and complications from the use of chemical drugs. Pomegranate peel can act as an anti-inflammatory by inhibiting inflammatory mediators. The aim of this study was to determine the number of macrophage cells in the gingiva of mice that were induced by inflammation after administration of pomegranate peel extract nanogel. The research method is pure experimental with a Post Test With Control Group Design. The samples used in this study were gingival tissue in the mandibular incisors of male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) which were induced using wire ligatures, and followed the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results of the study based on the Kruskall Wallis test showed that there was a significant difference in the number of macrophages (p<0.05) between treatment groups on the 3 and 7 days. A significant decrease in the number of macrophage cells occurred in the treatment group using the Mann-Whitney test. The conclusion is pomegranate peel extract nanogel has an effect on reducing the number of macrophage cells in inflamed rat gingiva with the best concentration of 25%.
