Objective: Pharmacist Professional Work Practice (PKPA) is one of the stages of
the education program in the Pharmacist Professional Education Study Program
Faculty of Pharmacy University of North Sumatra which aims to provide
knowledge, skills, and practical experience to prospective pharmacists. PKPA at
the Pharmaceutical Wholesaler (PBF) PT Kimia Farma Trading & Distribution
Medan Branch which was held on 4 March to 30 March 2024. This activity aims
to improve students' understanding of pharmaceutical preparation distribution
operations, the application of Good Drug Distribution Methods (CDOB), and the
roles and responsibilities of the pharmacist in charge at PBF.
Methods: The PKPA was conducted through direct observation, active
participation in operational activities, discussions, and guidance by the pharmacist
in charge at PBF. Students are involved in various activities ranging from the
process of receiving, storing, dispensing, distributing, documentation, to the
management of special drugs such as cold chain products and narcoticspsychotropic drugs. All of these activities have been carried out in accordance
with the applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs) and CDOB guidelines.
Results: The implementation of the PKPA shows that drug distribution activities
in PBF must fulfil the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations to
maintain the quality and safety of drugs during the distribution process. The
pharmacist in charge has the main role and responsibility in ensuring the
implementation of the quality management system, supplier and customer
qualifications, and accurate reporting and documentation. Through this PKPA,
students can gain direct experience in carrying out the role of pharmacists in the
field of pharmaceutical distribution, so that they are expected to be able to
implement the knowledge and skills that can be obtained in the practice of the
pharmacist profession in the future.
