Factors Associated with Adolescents' Participation in Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) at SMPN 6 Tebing Tinggi
Abstract
Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is a program implemented by the Indonesian government since 1996. However, as of 2018, the implementation rate of PHBS in Indonesia has only reached 39.1%, far below the target set by the Ministry of Health at 65%. This study aims to identify the factors influencing adolescents’ participation in PHBS at SMPN 6 Tebing Tinggi. The research employs a quantitative descriptive approach with a cross-sectional study design. The population consists of 270 eighth-grade students, with a sample size of 73 students selected using proportional random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents were female (54.8%) compared to male (45.2%). Most respondents demonstrated a high level of knowledge (80.8%) and good behavior (86.3%). The majority also indicated the availability of adequate facilities and infrastructure (78.1%) and assessed the role of teachers positively (76.7%). The study found a significant relationship between knowledge and PHBS behavior (p-value = 0.012), no significant relationship between facilities and infrastructure and PHBS behavior (p-value = 0.875), and a significant relationship between the role of teachers and PHBS behavior (p-value = 0.031). In conclusion, knowledge and the role of teachers have a significant influence on PHBS behavior, while the availability of facilities and infrastructure does not significantly affect PHBS behavior.
