The Relationship Between Family Support and Coping Mechanism in Drug Users at Sentra Insyaf Medan
Abstract
Coping mechanism refers to the ways individuals adjust to the problems they face. One of the factors that influence coping mechanisms is family support. The family plays a significant role in shaping a person's character, including among drug users. This study aims to examine the relationship between family support and coping mechanisms in drug users at Sentra Insyaf Medan. The research design used is descriptive quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study consists of 112 individuals, with a sample size of 88 drug users. The sampling technique used is Purposive Sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results show that drug users who received good family support amounted to 52 individuals (59.1%) and adaptive coping mechanisms were found in 80 individuals (90.9%). A significant relationship between family support and coping mechanisms in drug users at Sentra Insyaf Medan was found (p=0.000). This study suggests that drug users should receive good family support to develop adaptive coping mechanisms.
