Evaluasi Efektivitas Pembangunan Kolam Retensi di Kecamatan Medan Labuhan Sebagai Upaya Pengendalian Banjir
Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Retention Pond Construction in Medan Labuhan District as an Effort to Control Floods
Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of retention pond construction
in Medan Labuhan District as a flood control effort. Based on observations and
analysis, the primary causes of flooding in the area are limited drainage channel
capacity, sedimentation, waste accumulation, and insufficient water infiltration
areas due to the clayey soil type. Calculations indicate that the retention pond has
a storage capacity of 21,250 m³. The analysis utilizes rainfall data from the
Gumbel Distribution, which provides higher frequency values for safer analysis
results.
The findings reveal that the construction of retention ponds significantly
impacts flood control, with an average peak flood discharge reduction of 36.96%
and the ability to reduce flooding by up to 55.76%. Additionally, the retention
pond can decrease the flood discharge by 0.9806 m. Based on these findings, it is
recommended to improve drainage systems and manage household waste to
ensure sustainable flood control efforts. This research can also serve as a
theoretical reference for planning retention pond construction in other areas with
high flood discharge rates.
