Abstract
Pregnancy-related anemia is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality. The provision of iron (Fe) tablets is a preventive measure to combat pregnancy anemia, with cach pregnant woman expected to receive at least 90 Fe tablets during pregnancy. Compliance with Fe tablet consumption is an essential maternal health behavior that can reduce the incidence of pregnancy anemia. Family support is one of the key factors in shaping health behaviors, including pregnant women's adherence to consuming Fe tablets. This study aims to determine the effect of family support on the compliance of pregnant women in consuming Fe tablets in the working area of PB Selayang II Public Health Center. Medan. This study employs a comparative descriptive design with a population of 1,843 pregnant women receiving Fe tablets, and a sample of 95 pregnant women selected using purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that 78 pregnant women received high family support, and 80 pregnant women complied with Fe tablet consumption. A significant influence of family support on compliance in Fe tablet consumption was found (p-value 0.001). It is recommended that healthcare providers enhance education and health promotion efforts aimed at families with low support to improve compliance with Fe tablet consumption during pregnancy.
