dc.description.abstract | Rivers are waters that are greatly influenced by human activities, especially from land. Various land use activities in the Babalan watershed area, such as settlements, agriculture, and industry, are estimated to have had an impact on the water quality of the Babalan River. River pollution occurs when the quality of water decreases to a level that makes it unable to function according to its intended use. The purpose of this study is to determine the water quality of the Babalan River, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province physically and chemically. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a purposive sampling technique. The analysis of water samples carried out was DO (Disolved Oxygend) BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), TSS (Total Suspended Solids), pH, Ammonium, Nitrite, Nitrate, P total. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the quality of surface water in the Babalan Watershed (DAS) of Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province was found that several test parameters (DO, COD, TDS, TSS, NH 4+, P Total) exceeded the threshold that had been set, so that the quality of surface water in the Babalan watershed could not be said to meet the water quality standards.
