The Relationship between Family Support and Exclusive Breastfeeding in Padang Maninjau Village, Aek Kuo District
Abstract
Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby's life is a crucial factor in supporting optimal child growth and development. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding still faces various challenges, one of which is the lack of family support. Family support, whether emotional, instrumental, informational. or appraisal, plays a significant role in a mother's success in providing exclusive breastfeeding. This study aims to identify the relationship between family support and exclusive breastfeeding in Padang Maninjau Village, Aek Kuo District. The research used a descriptive quantitative method with a retrospective study design. The population in this study consisted of 84 mothers with infants aged 12-24 months, with a total sample of 84 respondents selected through total sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank test. The results showed that the majority of mothers who received good family support provided exclusive breastfeeding, accounting for 52 respondents (100%), while those with moderate family support who provided exclusive breastfeeding were 16 respondents (65.2%), and mothers with low family support who did not provide exclusive breastfeeding totaled 8 respondents (100%). The statistical analysis yielded a significant p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant relationship between family support and exclusive breastfeeding, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.626, signifying a strong relationship between family support and exclusive breastfeeding
