dc.description.abstract | Caries in teeth occur due to the demineralization process which dominates over the remineralization process. This can reduce the surface hardness of the so that a remineralizing agent is needed, one of which is CPP ACP. Using natural remineralization materials such as duck eggshells has been widely studied. This study aims to determine the difference in the effect of applying 6% nanohydroxyapatite paste from duck eggshell (Anas platyrhynchos) with Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate on tooth surface hardness.
This study used 24 samples of premolar teeth that had been extracted and embedded in gypsum stone with the buccal surface facing up, divided into four groups: (I) HCl demineralized and applied 6% duck eggshell nanohydroxyapatite paste, (II) HCl demineralized and applied CPP-ACP, (III) HCl demineralized and without remineralization material, and (IV) not demineralized and without remineralization material. The procedure of demineralization with HCl and application of remineralization materials was carried out for 30 minutes. The samples were kept in artificial saliva and 37oC incubator for 14 days. surface hardness was measured with a Microvickers Hardness Tester at three points on the buccal surface of the teeth after the demineralization process and after remineralization.
The results of the t-paired statistical test showed that there was an increase in tooth surface hardness after administration of the test material (p=0.0001). The results of the One Way ANOVA test obtained by the four groups had differences in the effect of treatment on surface hardness (p=0.0001). The results of the Post Hoc LSD statistical test showed a significant difference between the 6% duck eggshell nanohydroxyapatite group and the CPP-ACP group (p=0.0001). This study shows that there are differences in the effect of applying 6% duck eggshell nanohydroxyapatite paste and CPP-ACP in increasing the surface hardness of tooth . | en_US |
