Sistem Pengukuran Kecepatan Arus dan Ketinggian Permukaan Air Sungai Bilah Rantauprapat Secara Digital Berbasis Internet of Things (IoT)
Current Speed and Water Surface Height Measuring System The Bilah Rantauprapat River Digitally Based on the Internet of Things (IoT)
Abstract
The high intensity of rainfall in the upstream area of the Bilah Rantauprapat River
significantly increases the water discharge, potentially triggering flooding in the
downstream area. This study aims to develop a real-time monitoring system for river
water level and flow velocity based on the Internet of Things (IoT) as a flood disaster
mitigation effort. The system utilizes an ultrasonic sensor HC-SR04 to measure the
water surface level with a range of 4.74 to 5.96 meters, and a water flow sensor YFS201 to measure the flow velocity with a range of 0.32 to 1.4 m/s. The data obtained
from both sensors are then sent to the ThingSpeak platform via an internet connection
and displayed in real-time on an LCD screen. Additionally, the water discharge and
volume data are also calculated and displayed to provide more comprehensive
information to users. The system testing was conducted three times a day during data
collection, at 08.00, 13.00, and 19.00 WIB, to accommodate the fluctuation of water
discharge throughout the day. The research results are expected to produce an accurate
and efficient monitoring system for providing early warnings of flooding to the
surrounding community of the Bilah Rantauprapat River. Therefore, the community
can be better prepared to face the potential flood disaster and reduce its negative
impacts.
