This study aims to determine the relationship between empathy and social media addiction in early adulthood. Empathy is a person's ability to better understand the condition of others by sharing in their feelings. Social media addiction is the behavior of someone who uses social media continuously so that it interferes with their daily life and the individual considers cyberspace to be the center of their life. The number of subjects in this study was 335 early adults aged 20-30 years (M = 25, SD = 2,57). The method in this study is quantitative with a correlational research type. The empathy scale used is the Interpersonal and Social Empathy Index by Segal and Cimino (2013) and the Social Media Addiction scale which has been adapted by Napitupulu & Rangkuti (2023). The data obtained were processed using the Spearman Rank correlation analysis technique. The results of the study showed that there was a significant and negative relationship between the empathy variable and social media addiction (rho = -0.0115, p = 0.036 <0.05).
