Used cooking oil is a waste product from frying that can be processed into biodiesel as
an alternative renewable fuel. This study aims to design, fabricate, and test a device for
converting used cooking oil into biodiesel using esterification and transesterification
processes. The developed system consists of a raw material tank, main reactor, separation
tank, and washing tank. Experiments were conducted with varying methanol-to-oil ratios
and catalyst types to determine the optimal parameters for biodiesel production. The
results show that esterification and transesterification processes successfully reduced the
free fatty acid content in used cooking oil, producing biodiesel that meets the SNI
7182:2015 standard. However, the efficiency of the device needs further improvement,
particularly in temperature control and reactant mixing, to enhance reaction
optimization.
