    Abstract
    Breast milk is the primary source of nutrition for infants, containing nutrients essential for their growth and development. Exclusive breastfeeding is crucial as it prevents stunting, enhances the baby's immunity, improves intelligence, and is more economical. A primiparous mother is a first-time mother who may have limited experience, which can affect her response to her baby and impact her motivation to provide exclusive breastfeeding. There are eight factors influencing primiparous mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding: age, education level, occupation, knowledge, healthcare facilities, type of delivery, husband support, and healthcare provider support. This study aims to identify the factors that affect primiparous mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding in the PB Selayang Il Public Health Center work area, Medan. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method with a correlational descriptive design. The population in this study consisted of 1,843 breastfeeding mothers, with a sample size of 95 mothers selected through purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-square and Fisher Exact Test. Among the 95 breastfeeding mothers involved, 75 (76.5%) provided exclusive breastfeeding, while 20 (23.5%) did not. The results revealed at variables such as age (p=0.671), occupation (p=0.976), knowledge (p=0.387 ources of information (v=0.535). and husband support (p=0.785) did no significantly affect exclusive breastfeeding. However, education level (p=0.000), healthcare provider support (p=0.000), and type of delivery (p=0.005) significantly influenced exclusive breastfeeding. In conclusion, education level and type of delivery affect exclusive breastfeeding, while age, occupation, knowledge, sources of information, family support, and healthcare provider support do not.
