Correlation Between Family Support and Academic Achievement Among Migrant Students at the Faculty of Nursing Universitas Sumatera Utara

The decision to attend college and live away from family is one of the challenges students face in their studies. Family is one of the factors that affect the level of academic achievement in students. Families can affect the academic achievement and provide encouragement and motivation for migrant students. The research aims to analyze the correlation between family support and academic achievement among migrant students at Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Quantitative research design is used in this research with cross sectional study approach. The research population consists of 152 individuals, with a sample size of 110 individuals. The sampling technique used is convenience sampling. The research instruments consist of demographic data questionnaire, Family Support and Cumulative Achievement Index questionnaires. Data obtained are analyzed using the Spearman's Rho test. The results indicate that there is a correlation between family support and academic achievement among migrant students at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Sumatera Ulara with p-value =0.000 which means that Ha is accepted. A total of 82.7% receive good family support, while 55.5% have academic achievement with a GPA classified as "with honour". Family support is an essential aspect for migrant students while attending college, as it helps them overcome challenges during their studies and achieve good academic performance. This is because families provide reinforcement to migrant students during their studies, even when they are away from home.
