dc.description.abstract | Conventional heat cured acrylic resin is a commonly used denture base material, but it has the disadvantage of being prone to fracture. This can be overcome by improving the transverse strength of the mechanical properties of conventional heat cured acrylic resin by adding duck eggshells and blood cockle shell as reinforcements. Another way to obtain a denture base material with better transverse strength is to replace conventional heat cured acrylic resin with an alternative material that has better transverse strength, namely high impact heat cured acrylic resin. The aim of this research was to determine the difference in transverse strength of high impact and conventional heat cured acrylic resin with the addition of duck eggshell and blood cockle shell reinforcements. The design of this research is laboratory experimental. This research was conducted on high impact heat cured acrylic resin and conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base samples without and with the addition of duck eggshell and blood cockle shell reinforcements with a size of 65×10×2.5±0.5 mm and total 24 samples. Sample testing for transverse strength was conducted using a Universal Testing Machine. The test results were analyzed using univariate test, One-way Anova, and LSD post hoc test. The One-way Anova test results showed there is a difference in the mean transverse strength of the denture bases of all groups with a significant value of p = 0.0001 (p < 0.05). The results of the LSD post hoc test showed a significant difference in mean transverse strength between conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base with the addition of 5% blood cockle shell reinforcement with high impact heat cured acrylic resin denture base p = 0,0001, conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base with the addition of 5% blood cockle shell reinforcement with conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base without the addition of reinforcement p = 0,0001, conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base with the addition of 5% blood cockle shell reinforcement with conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base with the addition of 5% duck eggshell reinforcement p = 0,0001, and high impact heat cured acrylic resin denture base and conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base without the addition of reinforcing materials p = 0,021 (p < 0,05). However, there was no significant difference in mean transverse strength between conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base with the addition of 5% duck eggshell reinforcement with high impact heat cured acrylic resin denture base p = 0,064 and conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base with the addition of 5% duck eggshell reinforcement with conventional heat cured acrylic resin denture base without the addition of reinforcing materials p = 0,593 (p > 0.05). In this research, it can be concluded that there is a difference in the average value of the transverse strength of the heat cured acrylic resin high impact denture base with the conventional without and with the addition of 5% duck eggshell and 5% blood cockle shell reinforcement. | en_US |
