Analisis Hidrodinamika pada Oscillating Water Column (OWC) Tipe U dengan Menggunakan Pemodelan Waktu (Time Domain Modelling)
Hydrodynamic Analysis of U-Type Oscillating Water Column (OWC) Using Time Domain Modeling
Abstract
Currently, the main source of energy in Indonesia still relies on non-renewable
energy sources derived from fossil fuels. Fossil-based energy sources pose a major
problem because fossil fuels are non-renewable and their reserves are depleting
every year. This indirectly threatens the availability of electricity in Indonesia. One
of the alternative energy sources for power generation available in Indonesia is
wave energy. There are many concepts and technologies related to wave power
generation, such as the Oscillating Water Column (OWC) type of Wave Energy
Converter (WEC) device which has been widely researched, tested, reliable, and
relatively more mature in terms of technology. This research focuses on the effect
of hydrodynamic coefficients on the parameters of forced oscillation (with
amplitude and frequency variations) and also on how to know the validity of linear
superposition theory. The method used is the time-domain modeling method with
the assumption of linear superposition theory. The software used in the research is
OpenFOAM and wave2Foam. The results of this study show that frequency
variation greatly affects the hydrodynamic coefficient while amplitude variation
does not greatly affect the magnitude of the hydrodynamic coefficient and linear
superposition theory is declared valid because the internal water level elevation
obtained from the time domain modeling method is close to the same magnitude as
the wave2Foam simulation.
