Periodontal chip is one of the supporting therapies for periodontal disease that has been proven to reduce periodontal pockets. Periodontal chip have disadvantages, so natural materials are used as an alternative replacement, one of which is Geniotrigona thoracica propolis extract with a hydrogel base. The purpose of this study was to conduct a swelling test to determine the ability of the hydrogel to absorb water in humid conditions of the oral cavity as the basis for the hydrogel periodontal chip, which was then examined for its mechanical ability through a tensile test to test the adhesion strength of the material and a test of the inhibition of the hydrogel periodontal chip against the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis. This type of research is an experimental laboratory study with a posttest control group design. Based on the observation results, the swelling ratio carried out on 3 hydrogel chip samples was 21.6830 g/g in formulation 1, 7.1025 g/g in formulation 2 and 5.7653 g/g in formulation 3. Mechanical tests were carried out using Tensilon RTF 1350 and obtained tensile strength values with a value of 0.3273 Mpa in formulation 1, followed by formulation 2 of 0.1955 Mpa and formulation 3 of 0.0426 Mpa. The results of this study indicate no inhibitory activity (0 mm) against the growth of P. gingivalis. In conclusion, periodontal hydrogel chip are effective in retaining water retention capacity and have the best tensile strength in formulation 1.en_US
