The Relationship between the School Physical Environment and Student Health at SDN 108075 Delitua, Deli Serdang Regency
Abstract
The physical environment of a school plays a crucial role in supporting student health, which ultimately affects the learning process and overall well-being. Poor physical environment conditions, such as inadequate cleanliness, poor ventilation, insufficient lighting, and substandard sanitation facilities, can lead to various health problems, including acute respiratory infections (ARIs), digestive disorders, and allergies. This issue is exacerbated by a lack of awareness regarding the importance of a healthy physical environment in schools. This study aims to analyze the impact of the school's physical environment on student health at SDN 108075 Delitua, Deli Serdang Regency. This is a deseriptive quantitative study. The population of this study consisted of all students in grades 4 through 6 at SDN 108075 Delitua, totaling 76 students. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The research instrument used a validated and reliable questionnaire assessing the physical environment and student health. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman rank correlation test. The bivariate results showed a significant relationship between the physical environment and student health, with a p-value of 0.002 (p<0.005) and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.345, indicating a moderate relationship strength. Thus, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, meaning that there is a relationship between the school physical environment and student health at SDN 108075 Delitua, Deli Serdang Regency. The school is expected to create a physical environment that supports and improves the overall health of students because a good school environment will positively impact students' well-being and the learning process.
