Oil palm is the most significant plantation commodity cultivated in North Sumatra Province. High price fluctuations in oil palm commodities cause changes in prices received by farmers, especially smallholder oil palm farmers. The difference in prices received by oil palm farmers with independent patterns and with plasma patterns is a problem for farmers in making decisions. The study aims to describe how the behavior of farmers in the face of fluctuations in FFB prices and analyze what factors affect the behavior of farmers in the face of fluctuations in FFB prices. The analytical method used in the research is descriptive analysis and multinomial logistic regression test. The results showed that the behavior of farmers when facing fluctuations in FFB prices seen from the aspects of knowledge and attitudes, farmers have relative things and each farmer has thoughts that are not the same from each measurement. Meanwhile, from the aspect of action, namely, working on other people's land, reducing the dose of fertilizer and delaying land maintenance when the price of FFB is low. When the price of FFB is high, farmers will take care of the land, save money, and expand the land. The factors of land size and farming experience of farmers partially affect the behavior of independent and plasma farmers when the price of FFB is low, and the gender factor partially does not affect the behavior of farmers when the price of FFB is low. Meanwhile, when the price of FFB is high, only the factor of land area partially affects the behavior of farmers and the factors of farming experience and gender partially do not affect the behavior of farmers.
