Factors Related to Efforts to Prevents of Diabetes Mellitus Complication in Patient at Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Teaching Hospital
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is one of the four priority non-communicable diseases. According
to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 2004, diabetes mellitus is one of the
65% causes of death from heart disease and stroke. The results of an initial survey
conducted by researchers on diabetes patients at the Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis
Teaching Hospital showed that many of the diabetes mellitus patients experienced
complications during their visits. The purpose of the study was to determine the
factors associated with efforts to prevent complications in diabetes mellitus patients
at the Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Teaching Hospital. The type of research used
in this study is quantitative. With a cross-sectional study approach. The research
instrument used a questionnaire using the Chi-square test. Based on the results of
the study, there is a relationship between the Knowledge variable and efforts to
prevent complications of diabetes mellitus with a p-value: 0.006 <0.05 There is no
relationship between the attitude variable and efforts to prevent complications of
diabetes mellitus with a p-value: 0.502> 0.05. There is no relationship between the
health worker support variable and efforts to prevent complications of diabetes
mellitus with a p-value: 0.187> 0.05. There is a relationship between family support
variables and efforts to prevent complications of diabetes mellitus with p-value:
0.013 <0.05. Endocrinologists must provide education to improve knowledge for
patients and families to implement a healthy lifestyle such as food, physical activity,
and healthy exercise for DM patients.
