The Relationship between Student Participation in the School Health Movement Program and Clean and Healthy Living Behavior at SMAN 1 Salak Pakpak Bharat
Abstract
Clean and healthy living behavior is essential for adolescents to support their physical and mental development. Adolescents are a vulnerable group regarding the quality of clean and healthy living behaviors. Various factors, such as advertising influences across multiple media, affect students' lifestyles, potentially leading to risky behaviors. The School Health Movement (Gerakan Sekolah Sehat or GSS) plays a vital role in fostering healthy behaviors among students, including maritious eating habits, physical fitness, and adherence to immunization. This study aims to identify the relationship between student participation in the School Health Movement program and clean and healthy living behavior at SMAN I Salak Pakpak Bharat. This quantitative study employed a correlational observational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 288 students, with a sample of 161 grade 11 students from SMAN 1 Salak, selected using probability sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between student participation in the School Health Movement program and clean and healthy living behavior among grade 11 students at SMAN 1 Salak Pakpak Bharat (p = 0.001). SMAN 1 Salak reported active student participation in the program at 82%, with 80.7% of students exhibiting good clean and healthy living behaviors. Therefore, it is recommended that SMAN 1 Salak continue to enhance and optimize student participation in the School Health Movement program to further improve clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS) among its students.
