Penerapan Komunikasi Terapeutik Pekerja Sosial dalam Pembinaan di Rumah Healing Kota Padang Panjang

Abstract

This research is entitled “Application of Therapeutic Communication of Social Workers in Coaching at the Healing House in Padang Panjang City”. The purpose of this study was to determine the process and application of therapeutic communication techniques of social workers in coaching at the Healing House in Padang Panjang City. The theory used in this research is the theory of therapeutic communication. The method used in this research is descriptive method with qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews and observations. The informants in this study amounted to three social workers and two clients. Data validity was obtained using data source triangulation techniques. The results showed that social workers in providing guidance to clients applied four stages in the therapeutic communication process such as pre-interaction, orientation, work stage and termination. After passing through the stages in the therapeutic communication process, social workers are expected to be able to build good relationships and also gain trust from clients. In addition, social workers also apply all the techniques in therapeutic communication such as active listening, open-ended questions, repeating, clarifying, reflecting with the client, focusing the conversation, sharing perceptions, identifying themes, silence, providing information and giving advice. One of the therapeutic communication techniques favored by social workers is active listening. By actively listening, social workers can find out more about the client's complaints and can provide solutions to these complaints.
