Kajian Perbedaan Karakteristik Morfometrik Domba Lokal Sei Putih Kecamatan Galang Kabupaten Deli Serdang Dengan Domba Lokal Sumatera

Abstract

Sheep is one of the livestock commodities developed and utilised by the Indonesian people in general in fulfilling animal protein needs. Sumatran composite sheep (DKS) or Sei Putih sheep which looks more like ahair sheep breeds well and spreads quickly in Sumatra. This study aims to determine the morphometric identification of local Sei Putih sheep (Delser) through morphometric data, with comparison of local sheep from Sumatra, as a basis for selecting the special characteristics of these sheep. This research was conducted in the area of breeders group of Sei Putih sheep breeding centre, Galang District, Deli Serdang Regency from August to September 2024. This research was conducted using purposive sampling method. The results showed that the morphometric characteristics of Sei Putih local sheep, from far quantitative measurements have a larger size value. Likewise, qualitative measurements in the form of colour, face shape, ear shape and horns also show differences from local Sei Putih sheep and local Sumatra sheep.
