Hubungan Pengetahuan dan Sikap Orang Tua Mengenai Buku KIA terhadap Perilaku Pemanfaatan Buku KIA

Abstract

Introduction: Mother and children are family member who needs priority in the implementation of health promotion because they are vulnerable to family and surrounding circumstances. The maternal and child health handbook (MCH-Handbook) is a tool for early detection of maternal and child health disorders or problems, a communication tool, and counseling with important information for mothers, families, and the community regarding services, maternal and child health including referrals and standards for MCH services, nutrition, immunization, and growth and development of toddlers. Utilization of MCH-handbook still constrained by the low knowledge and attitude of parents about the MCH-handbook and its benefits. Objective: This study aims to determine the relation of knowledge and attitude towards the behavior of utilising the MCH-handbook. Methods: It is an observational analytical study with cross-sectional design using questionnaires as the primary data in Padang Bulan, PB Selayang II, and Darussalam public health centre. Results: From 90 samples, 57,8% had good knowledge, 42,2% had moderate knowledge, and 97,8% had positive attitude. 73,3% of samples didn’t utilise the MCH-handbook, meanwhile 26,7% utilised it well. Bivariate analysis using chi-square showed significant result for knowledge (p=0,019), and insignificant result for attitude (p=1). Conclusion: Parents didn’t utilise the MCH-handbook. There is a relation between knowledge and behavior of utilising the MCH-handbook, but no relation between attitude and behavior of utilising the MCH-handbook.
