Work stress is a condition of psychological and physical tension that arises as a result of the imbalance between job demands and the resources of a worker. It can affect a worker's emotions, state of mind, and performance. Health and Safety Executive (HSE) states that work stress, depression, or anxiety are more prevalentin the public service industry, including the police. According to data from Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), there have been five police officers who committed suicide up until July 2024. The research by the National Police Headquarters stated that 80% of police officers in criminal detective and traffic officers experienced work stress due to workload or work pressure. This study was intended to determine the factors that are related to work stress in criminal detective unit police officers at Langkat Police Station in 2024. The Type of this study is a quantitative analytic with cross sectional design. The sample in this study were 50 police officers taken by purposive sampling method. The data was collected using a questionnaire. The data analysis was conducted by univariate and bivariate using Spearman rank correlation test. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between workload (p=0.001), social support (p=0.001), career development (p=0.002), and home-work interface (p=0.001) with work stress in criminal detective unit police officers at Langkat Police Station in 2024. To the authorized institution it is suggested to conduct stress management programmes, including educational and training in emotionalregulation to help prevent and manage work stress in police officers.
