DM is a metabolic disorder that can affect bone thickness and density. The gonial index is the angle formed between the line connecting the meeting point between the ramus line and the mandibular line, mandibular ramus intersects with posterior border of mandible and mandibular line. This study aims to determine difference in thickness and density of mandibular cortical bone with and without patients of type 2 DM Bataknese using the gonial index. The results showed that the average value of the mandibular cortical bone thickness in the group with Type 2 diabetes was 2.560 ± 0.666 and the non-patient group was 2.655 ± 0.388, while the average value of the mandibular cortical bone density in the group with Type 2 diabetes was 262.483 ± 70.912 and the non-patient group was 244.712 ± 70.006. Based on the results of statistical tests with the Mann-Whitney test, obtained a value of p>0.05 that is, there is no significant difference in the thickness of the mandibular cortical bone in the group of patients with Type 2 diabetes and not patients with Batak tribe. The results of statistical tests with independent T-test, obtained a value of p>0.05 that is, there is no significant difference in mandibular cortical bone density in the group of patients and non-patients with DM type 2 Batak tribe using gonial index. The conclusion of the study is the thickness in the group of patients has an average value of the lower jaw when compared with the group of non-patients with Type 2 diabetes, while the density in the group of non-patients has a low average value when compared with the group of patients with Type 2 diabetes.
