Introduction: Ascites is a pathological fluid accumulation within the peritoneal cavity. Ascites is the most common complication of cirrhosis and occurs in approximately 50% of patients with decompensated cirrhosis within 10 years. Diagnostic paracentesis with appropriate ascitic fluid analysis should be performed in all patients hospitalized with ascites before undergoing therapy to rule out causes of ascites other than cirrhosis. This study aims to analyze the differences in ascitic fluid analysis profiles in patients with cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic ascites at Adam Malik Hospital. Methods: This study is an analytic observational study with a case control design. Secondary data from medical records of patients diagnosed with cirrhotic ascites and non-cirrhotic ascites who underwent ascitic fluid puncture and ascitic fluid analysis in the period of 2023. For categorical data, Chi Square test will be used. Numerical data will be analyzed using the Mann Whitney test. Results: This study consisted of 142 patients from each group (n=284). In cirrhotic ascites patients had a higher median age than non-cirrhotic ascites 56 years vs 51 years with a p-value <0.001. In non-cirrhotic ascites patients, the majority of the gender was female, 87 people (61.3%). This was not the same as non-cirrhotic ascites patients who were predominantly male, 99 people (69.7%). In cirrhotic ascites patients, laboratory values tend to be lower than non-cirrhotic ascites, but for SGOT, SGOT and bilirubin are higher in the cirrhotic ascites group. In the analysis of ascitic fluid showed significant differences, cirrhotic ascites had a distribution that tended to be transudate, while the non-cirrhotic ascites group had an exudate distribution on the value of total protein and LDH (lactate dehydrogenase). Conclusion: There were significant differences in laboratory parameters and ascitic fluid analysis between cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic patients.en_US
