dc.description.abstract | Background: Iler leaf (Coleus scutellarioides (L.) Benth) is one of the plants that
is efficacious as a natural antioxidant. Traditionally, iler leaves are widely used in
West Java in therapeutic uses such as overcoming postpartum, dermatitis,
abdominal pain, cough and pain in muscles, bronchitis, asthma, angina, indigestion,
and animal bites. Based on this, researchers are interested in testing the effect of
extraction methods on the antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts of iler leaves
using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhdrazil) method.
Objective : This study aims to compare the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract
of iler leaves obtained by maceration and microwave assisted extraction (MAE)
methods.
Methods : This study includes the preparation of simplisia powder determination
of water content, determination of water soluble juice content, determination of
ethanol soluble juice content, determination of total ash content, and determination
of acid insoluble ash content, phytochemical screening, extraction by maceration
method and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) using 96% ethanol and then
antioxidant activity test against DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazil).
Result : The results showed that the characterization results of iler leaf simplisia
powder, moisture content 8,65%, water soluble juice content of 23,33%, ethanol
soluble juice content of 21,02%, total ash content of 6,79%, acid insoluble ash
content of 1,77%. The results of phytochemical screening of ethanol extracts of iler
leaves maceration and MAE were positive for flavonoids, saponins, glycosides,
triterpenoids. IC50 value of ethanol extract of iler leaves maceration 56,2968 µg/mL,
IC50 of ethanol extract of iler leaves MAE 48,2665 µg/mL while quercetin IC50
value of 4,5583 µg/mL.
Conclusions : The results showed that ethanol extract of iler leaves obtained by
microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) had better antioxidant activity than ethanol
extract of iler leaves obtained by maceration. | en_US |
