dc.description.abstract | Floods are water that overflows due to high rainfall. One way to overcome floods
is
to build good drainage channels. However, drainage often experiences
sedimentation problems, garbage accumulates so that drainage channels cannot
accommodate water properly. The drainage problem can be overcome by updating
the drainage system in the area. This study focuses on the effectiveness of drainage
channels after renewal in the Martubung area of Medan, North Sumatra. The
purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness and capacity of existing
drainage channels and to find out what causes flooding in the area. This study is
analytical, with the data obtained namely rainfall station data for hydrological
analysis and drainage size data for hydraulic analysis. The results of the analysis
showed that in the Martubung area there was a flood caused by the accumulation
of garbage and sediment so that the drainage channel was renewed with the
capacity of the drainage system channel that had been renewed, which was declared
effective at 70,07% in handling the flood level in the Martubung area. This drainage
system renewal reduces the flooding that occurs. Before planning the channel, the
discharge that will enter the drainage channel should be taken into account. Pay
attention to the existence of existing drainage channels so that they are not clogged
with garbage. The importance of maintaining the condition of the channel so as not
to throw garbage and regularly cleaning the channel so that sediment does not
