Wind energy is one of the potential renewable energy sources to reduce
dependence on fossil fuels, but choosing the right type of wind turbine is still a
challenge to optimize energy conversion. This study compares the efficiency of
Savonius and H-Darrieus rotor type wind turbines under different wind speed
conditions to determine the best performance in each scenario. The research was
conducted using the experimental method through design, testing, and data
analysis with wind speed variations from 2 m/s to 6 m/s. The test results show that
at low wind speeds (2-3 m/s), the Savonius turbine is more efficient with an
output voltage of 3.6 V at 2 m/s and 8.6 V at 3 m/s, while the H-Darrieus turbine
only produces output voltages of 3.5 V and 5 V at the same speed. However, at
higher wind speeds (5-6 m/s), the H-Darrieus turbine showed performance with an
efficiency of 2.7% and a maximum torque of 88.17 Nm compared to the Savonius
turbine achieved an efficiency of 0.98% and a torque of 18.9 Nm. The Savonius
turbine is more suitable for low wind conditions, while the H-Darrieus turbine is
more optimal for high wind speeds, so its selection must be adjusted to the
environmental conditions.
