Waste is a global environmental issue that is of particular concern in developing countries. Urban development and population growth have led to the expansion and densification of residential areas, resulting in an increase in waste generation. One place with the potential to generate waste in a city is a university or college campus. The objectives of this study were to analyze the level of student participation in waste management at the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) and Faculty of Humanities (FIB) at Universitas Sumatera Utara, and to analyze the relationship between the factors influencing student participation and the level of student participation in waste management. Data was collected using questionnaires and the level of student participation was analyzed using a comparative descriptive method. Based on the research results in the two faculties, it was concluded that the overall level of student participation in waste management, which includes waste collection, sorting, and utilization, falls into the high participation category with a percentage of 82.26% for FKM and 79.03% for FIB. The results of the analysis using the Spearman Rank correlation test show that most internal and external factors have a significant relationship with the three indicators selected by the researcher, namely the indicators of waste collection, sorting, and utilization, which are in the range of (.203* - .666**).en_US
