    Abstract
Academic stress has been proven to be a manifestation of depression, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, early gastrointestinal symptoms and insomnia which can have a negative effect on student educational achievement. This stress affects the hormone cortisol as a biological marker of stress, as well as affecting the degree of acidity (pH) and saliva flow rate. Drinking sidamanik black tea can be an effort to make the body more relaxed. However, until now there has been no research on the effect of drinking black tea on pH, flow rate and the salivary corticol hormone. The aim of this research was to examine the effect of black tea on pH, flow rate and salivary cortisol hormone in USU FKG students. This research method is pre-experimental with a one group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were USU FKG students aged 18-25 years who were taken using a purposive sampling technique with inclusion and exclusion criteria totaling 24 subjects. Saliva was collected before and 30 minutes after drinking Sidamanik black tea. Saliva pH was checked using a Hanna pH meter instrument, saliva flow rate was checked by dividing the volume by saliva collection time, and saliva cortisol levels were measured using the ELISA method. The results showed pH (p=0.000), flow rate (p=0.000) and the hormone cortisol (p=0.000) where p<0.005. There were significant differences in pH, flow rate and cortisol hormone after drinking sidamanik black tea among USU FKG students. The conclusion of this research is that drinking sidamanik black tea can increase pH, flow rate and reduce levels of the hormone cortisol in USU FKG students.
