Mackerel (Rastrelliger sp.) is one of the fish that belongs to small pelagic
fish. Mackerel is found in coastal and offshore waters and is generally widely
distributed in the central part of Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to determine
the sustainable potential and utilization rate of mackerel (Rastrelliger sp.) . This
research was carried out in July – August 2024. This research method uses the
surplus production method, namely Catch Per Effort (CPUE) and Estimation of
Sustainable Potential (MSY). Sustainable Potential was analyzed using the Surplus
Production Model with the Fox model. The results showed that the average catch
value per unit effort was 0.14 tons/trip. The maximum sustainable potential of
mackerel is 18200.22 tons/year with optimal fishing efforts (fopt) of 41011.84 trips.
The average utilization rate of 1.5% of the MSY value is categorized as low
(underfishing), while the value of the allowed catch is 14560.17 tons/year. Overall,
mackerel fishing can still be improved to get more optimal results, but not
exceeding the MSY limit that has been determined.
