Mangrove Educational Tourism Design with a Sustainable Architecture Approach at the Kampung Nipah Mangrove Beach, Serdang Bedagai
Perancangan Wisata Edukasi Mangrove dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Berkelanjutan di Pantai Mangrove Kampung Nipah, Serdang Bedagai
Abstract
Educational tourism aims to enhance travelers understanding
and knowledge of specific topics, such as the mangrove
ecosystem, which holds significant ecological, economic, and
social values, including its role in carbon storage to mitigate
climate change. In Indonesia, home to the world’s largest
mangrove ecosystem, about 90% of mangrove forests in North
Sumatra are damaged due to land conversion into oil palm
plantations and ponds. A sustainable development approach
that conserves mangroves is essential. Mangrove educational
tourism is expected to raise awareness, knowledge, and boost
the local economy through community participation.
The design of educational tourism facilities at Kampung Nipah
Mangrove Beach, Serdang Bedagai Regency, with a sustainable
architectural approach, aims to create an environmentally
friendly space that supports mangrove conservation and
provides long-term benefits for both the environment and the
community.
