    Abstract
Root canal infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus can hinder the success of endodontic treatment. Effective and safe irrigation materials are needed to reduce bacterial growth. Fragrant pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) are known to contain antibacterial compounds, making them a potential alternative to synthetic chemicals for root canal irrigation, with the added benefit of being more environmentally friendly. This study aims to analyze the antibacterial effect of ethanol extract from fragrant pandan leaves against Staphylococcus aureus through in vitro laboratory tests. The method used was a post-test only control group design, with various extract concentrations: 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, and 1.56%. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) were determined to assess antibacterial effectiveness. The results showed that the ethanol extract of fragrant pandan leaves inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, with an MIC at 25% concentration and an MBC at 50% concentration. This demonstrates that the extract has significant antibacterial activity. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of fragrant pandan leaves effectively inhibits and kills Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. Further research is needed to evaluate its efficacy and safety in clinical applications, supporting its potential use as a safer and more environmentally friendly root canal irrigation material.
