Research thesis entitled "Use of the Chinese Tang Dynasty Era to the Modern Era: A Comparative Study" aims to describe similarities and differences in the use of Chinese Tang Dynasty Era to the Modern Era. The data in this study consists of subtitle text of the movie "武媚娘 传奇" (May wǔ Niang chuan qi) and the vocabulary of the dictionary. Source of research data is the movie "武媚娘 传奇" (wǔ mèi niáng chuan qi) downloaded via YouTube on channel "高清电视剧" (Gao qīng diàn Shi Ju) and four dictionaries, namely (1) Dictionary Chinese-Indonesian-Chinese year of issue 2009 ; (2) Indonesian-Chinese Practical Dictionary Chinese Chinese Dian Rakyat year published; (3) 现代汉语 规范 词典 (xiandaihanyuguifancidian) issued in 2004; (4) 现代汉语 词典 (xiandaihanyucidian) published in 2010. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The theory used in this research is semantic theory by J.D. Parera about meaning and meaning by focusing on the level of contextual meaning. Archaic by Martinus Nijhoff theory is used to analyze the use of words or ancient past that is not commonly used anymore. The results showed that the similarities and differences in the use of Chinese Tang Dynasty Era to the Modern Era, as follows: (1) 137 vocabulary have similarities to the characters; (2) 251 vocabulary has the similarity of the Tang Dynasty vocabulary using the Modern Era; (3) 139 vocabulary has differences in the script; (4) 34 vocabulary has a difference or no longer used but has a substitute vocabulary in the modern era; (4) 70 vocabulary has a difference or is no longer used in the modern era; (5) 27 vocabulary experienced a shift in meaning in the modern era. The findings of this study indicate that there are similarities and differences in the use of the Mandarin of the Tang Dynasty Era with the Modern Era.
