dc.description.abstract | This study aims to examine the factors of political capital that influenced Palacheta Subies Subianto’s victory in the 2024 Legislative Election for the North Sumatra Provincial Parliament (DPRD Sumut). Legislative elections in Indonesia, especially in North Sumatra, are highly competitive, involving many candidates from diverse backgrounds. In this context, Palacheta Subies Subianto’s success, as a first-time legislative candidate from the Golkar Party, relied not only on political factors but also on his social, economic, and cultural capital. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis to explore how political, social, and economic capital contributed to Palacheta Subies Subianto's political success. The study's findings show that social capital, built through relationships with the community and his reputation as an entrepreneur, educator, and philanthropist, played a key role in supporting his election. In addition, economic capital, including campaign funds, business networks, and financial backing, also played a significant role in supporting his campaign efforts. His social capital, along with his unique ethnic background as a Tionghoa-Muslim and his close ties with party elites, strengthened his political base in North Sumatra’s second electoral district, which had been dominated by local political elites and incumbents. The study also highlights the strong correlation between social, economic, and political capital in determining success in legislative elections. These forms of capital not only helped Palacheta Subies Subianto secure a seat in the DPRD of North Sumatra but also underscored the importance of thorough preparation and effective political strategies in winning legislative elections. The findings are expected to provide valuable insights into the study of political capital, particularly in the context of local politics in Indonesia. | en_US |
