The Correlation Between Chicken Farm Coop Distance and Fly Density at Residential Houses of Bosar Nauli Village Hatonduhan Subdistrict Simalungun District

Fly density is an important issue that can disrupt community activities, one of which originates from chicken farm coops, including the Simbolon chicken farm coop in Bosar Nauli Village. The fly density in residential houses of Bosar Nauli Village is caused by the substandard physical conditions of the chicken farm coop. Of the nine physical conditions observed, only three met the standards: orientation, roof, and flooring. The chicken farm coop is located less than 500 meters from residential areas, with the nearest distance being 32 meters. This study was conducted to determine the correlation of chicken farm coop distance and fly density at residential houses of Bosar Nauli village Hatonduhan subdistrict Simalungun district. A quantitative approach with an analytical cross-sectional research design was used. The population consisted of 82 residential houses within a 900-meter radius of the coop, with 45 houses selected using purposive random sampling. Data were obtained through observations of coop conditions, measurements of the distance from the coop to residential houses, and fly density measurements in residential houses. The results showed that fly density was categorized as high, with an average of 10 flies per grill block. Statistical analysis using the pearson correlation test indicated a significant correlation between the coop's distance and fly density (p = 0.000, r = -0.085). The closer the chicken farm coop was to residential houses, the higher the fly density, and vice versa. Fly density at closer distances was 1.82 times higher (R = 1.82) than at moderate and far distances. This indicates a significant fly density in residential areas, which disrupts the activities of residents near the chicken farm coop. It is suggested that coop owner improve the physical conditions of the chicken farm coop.
