dc.description.abstract | This research analyzes the violations of conversational principles in the Wednesday series using H.P. Grice's Cooperative Principle and Christoffersen’s the reason of violating the maxims theory in which identified eight reasons why the main characters violate the maxims. This study aims to reveal the types of maxim violations as well as the reasons for the main characters to commit violations. This research focuses on four episodes in the Wednesday series, this research identifies and classifies instances of maxim violations, including quantity, quality, relationship, and manner. The research finding that there are 31 violations found, with the relevant maxim being the most dominant violation 16 instances, followed by the 6 quantity maxims, 5 quality maxims, and 4 manner maxims. A total of 31 data were found with the reasons why the main character committed the violation, the most dominant by 15 satisfying the hearer, followed by 8 hiding the truth, 3 avoiding to hurt the hearer, 3 save face, 1 cheer the hearer and 1 building one's belief. | en_US |
