Utiliation of Snakes and Ladder Game Media and Video Media in the Behavior of Washing Hands with Soap in Children of State Elementary School 2 and State Elementary School 5 in Bintang District Central Aceh Regency in 2024
Abstract
Washing Hand with Soap (WHWS) behavior is a simple but very important health
action in preventing the spread of disease, especially diarrhea, which is still a
major health problem in Indonesia. In Bintang District, Central Aceh Regency, the
prevalence of diarrhea reached 38.74%, with the main causes related to poor
sanitation and low student awareness of the importance of washing hands with
soap. The purpose of this study was to analyze the use of snakes and ladders game
media and video media in handwashing behavior with soap in elementary school
students 2 and 5 in Bintang District, Central Aceh Regency in 2024. The study
used the Quasi Experimental method with a pretest and posttest design with a
control group. The sample consisted of 40 students, 20 students each from
Elementary School 2 Bintang and Elementary School 5 Bintang. Data analysis
was conducted using dependent t-test, Wilcoxon test and independent t-test,
Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed that the snakes and ladders game media
had an influence on knowledge (p<0.001), attitudes (p=0.001), and actions
(p<0.001) of students at SD Negeri 2 and there was an influence on knowledge
(p<0.001), attitudes (p=0.003), and actions (p<0.001) of students at SD Negeri 5
Bintang significantly. Video media also had an influence on knowledge (p=0.004)
and actions (p<0.001), but did not affect the attitudes of students at SD Negeri 2
and there was an influence on knowledge (p<0.001), attitudes (p=0.005), and
actions (p=0.001) of students at SD Negeri 5 Bintang significantly. The snakes
and ladders game media was more effective in increasing knowledge at SDN 2
(mean rank 13.80) compared to video (mean rank 7.20; p = 0.008) and in SDN 5
(mean rank 13.15 vs 7.85; p = 0.033). However, the difference in effectiveness in
the aspects of attitude and action was not significant in both schools. This study
recommends the use of snakes and ladders game media and video media as health
promotion tools to improve CTPS behavior in elementary school students.
