    Abstract
Orthodontic treatment has side effects, namely changes in the normal flora of the oral cavity, causing increased plaque retention because fixed appliances make it very difficult to clean the oral cavity. Users of fixed orthodontic appliances are advised to use antimicrobial mouthwash which plays a role in maintaining good oral hygiene while preventing plaque buildup and gingivitis. The aim of the research is to determine the effectiveness of pirdot (Saurauia vulcani Korth.) leaf extract in various concentrations as an antibiofilm against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 25923™ so that it can be used as an alternative ingredient for herbal mouthwash. Laboratory experimental research design with post-test only control group design. Research samples of pirdot leaf extract and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 25923™, seven treatment groups with 3 repetitions. The testing method for this research is a microtitre plate assay using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry to see the anti-biofilm effectiveness of pirdot leaf extract. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test analysis showed a significance value of p=0.003 (p<0.05). This value shows that pirdot leaf extract has anti-biofilm effectiveness against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 25923™. The research results can be concluded that the ethanol extract of pirdot leaves with a concentration of 10% (100 mg/mL) is the best concentration in inhibiting the formation of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 25923™ biofilm with an average antibiofilm percentage of 56.44%.
