dc.description.abstract | One of the parameters assessed in determining the success of a dental
restoration is the level of smoothness of the restoration surface. The surface roughness
of composite resin is influenced by several intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Extrinsic
factors relate to methods at the finishing and polishing stages, such as materials, tools
and polishing techniques. The use of polishing paste at the polishing stage can produce
a smooth and shiny restoration surface. Apart from that, there are two types of polishing
techniques, namely wet and dry polishing. The dry technique can produce heat which
can increase the surface roughness of the restoration. The aim of this research was to
determine the differences in the effect of wet and dry polishing techniques on
nanohybrid composite resin restorations polished with blood cockle shell paste
(Anadara granosa) and commercial paste on surface roughness. This laboratory
experimental research uses a post-test only group design. This study used 24 first class
V restored maxillary incisors and were divided into four treatment groups, namely the
polishing group using shellfish paste using wet polishing techniques and dry polishing
techniques; and the polishing group used commercial paste with wet polishing and dry
polishing techniques. Sample surface roughness testing using a profilometer. Statistical
analysis was carried out using the ANOVA test and Post Hoc LSD Test with a
significance level of =0.05. The results of the One-Way ANOVA test obtained a
significance value of p=0.000, which showed that there were significant differences between the four treatment groups (p<0.05). The group of samples polished using blood
clam shell-based paste and using the wet polishing technique showed the lowest surface
roughness values. | en_US |
