    Abstract
Introduction: Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a chronic inflammation of the middle ear characterized by perforation of the tympanic membrane and discharge of fluid from the ear for more than 2 months, either continuously or intermittently. Allergic rhinitis causes obstruction of the Eustachian tube and causes decreased pressure in the middle ear resulting in transudation of serous fluid into the middle ear. Recurrent acute otitis media and otitis media with effusion can cause long-term changes in the tympanic membrane. Histological degeneration of the tympanic membrane occurs in the fibrous layer, lamina propria and submucosal layer. These changes can reduce the elastic properties of the tympanic membrane making it more susceptible to perforation which is a risk factor for CSOM. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between allergic rhinitis as a predisposing factor for CSOM. Method: This study is an analytical study with a case-control study by examining the condition of allergic rhinitis in CSOM patients. Results: The subjects of this study were 36 people with 36 controls. There is a significant relationship between allergic rhinitis and OMSK (p=0.001). The OR value obtained was 6.192 (95% CI 2.190-17.505) meaning that subjects with allergic rhinitis will be at risk of experiencing OMSK by 6.192 times compared to subjects without allergic rhinitis. Conclusion: This study shows that there is a tendency this study shows that allergic rhinitis is a risk factor for OMSK. Keywords: OMSK; Allergic Rhinitis; Skin Prick Test; Eosinophil
