Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), also known as vapes, have become increasingly popular worldwide. According to the GATS survey in 2021, the prevalence of e-cigarette use rose from 0.3% in 2019 to 3% in 2021. A 2019 survey showed that 55.2% of active smokers in Medan City were e-cigarette users. This study aimed to evaluate the oral and periodontal hygiene status of e-cigarette smokers in the scooter community of Medan City. This research was descriptive with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 407 individuals from three scooter communities in Medan City. Using a purposive sampling technique, 162 e-cigarette smokers without a history of conventional smoking for at least one year were selected. Their oral hygiene status was assessed using the OHIS (Oral Hygiene Index Simplified), while periodontal status was evaluated using the BOP (Bleeding on Probing) index and the PD (Pocket Depth) index. The results showed an average debris score of 1.33 ± 0.74, a calculus score of 1.55 ± 0.83, and an oral hygiene score of 2.88 ± 1.57, with the majority falling in the "moderate" oral hygiene category (64.2%). The average percentage of gingival bleeding during probing (BOP) was 36.97 ± 27.70%, accompanied by a pocket depth of 3.52 ± 1.35. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that e-cigarette smokers are at risk of poor oral and periodontal hygiene status.en_US
