dc.description.abstract | Methanol demand is widely used as fuel, solvent in chemical industry or intermediate product. Methanol production by membrane integration and low pressure lurgi has advantages in terms of efficiency, high permeability and selectivity to the product, and stable operating temperature. The main objective of the methanol pre-design is to assess the feasibility of the plant by utilizing synthesis gas (syngas). The syngas reforming reaction is carried out at a pressure of 1 bar and a temperature of 325ºC with the help of a Cr2O3 catalyst in a membrane reactor, while the synthesis reaction is carried out at a pressure of 1 bar and a temperature of 260ºC with the help of a CuO/Al2O3 catalyst in a catalyst filled tubular reactor. To meet market needs, methanol is purified to 99% in a distillation column. The plant was established in the Rimau Sungsang area of Palembang, South Sumatra, with an area of 14,085 m2 with a shift, and non-shift work system. Utility requirements, such as saturated steam of 65,362.954 kg/hour, cooling water of 37,409,636.548 kg, electricity of 244.962 kW, and diesel fuel of 5,713.135 kg/hour. Fixed investment capital and working capital amounted to Rp.99,506,629,024 and Rp.631,154,196,866 respectively, production cost amounted to Rp. 536,185,593,782, and profit amounted to Rp.92,366,580,135. Based on economic analysis, the plant has profit margin (PM) of 19.54%, breakeven point (BEP) of 42.77%, return on investment (ROI) post tax of 12.64%, pay ot time (POT) after tax of 7 years 9 months, return on networth (RON) of 21.07%, and internal rate of return (IRR) of 19.86 %. Based on the results of the economic feasibility analysis, the plants producing methanol methanol synthesis gas (syngas) low pressure lurgy using CuO/Al2O3 and Cr2O3 catalyst capacity of 250,000 tons/year is deemed worthy of further investigation. | en_US |
