dc.description.abstract | The plant design for the manufacture of isobutyl palmitate from palmitic acid and
isobutyl alcohol by esterification process has a production capacity of 70,000
tonnes/year and operates for 330 days a year. The main process in this plant design
consists of two stages, namely the formation stage of isobutyl palmitate and the
purification stage. In the formation stage of isobutyl palmitate, a reactive distillation
reactor is used which operates at 117°C pressure 1 atm for 30.57 minutes requiring
7,265.350 kg/hour palmitic acid and 2,333.627 kg/hour isobutyl alcohol with 0.978
kg/hour sulfuric acid catalyst. In the esterification process, a reaction conversion of
99% was obtained. Then in the purification stage, several stages occur, namely the
neutralisation stage of the catalyst, the decantation stage of the catalyst salt, and the
evaporation stage. isobutyl palmitate produced has a purity of 99.8%. The plant
location is planned in Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone, Simalungun, North
Sumatra with an area of 19.376,4 m2. The planned form of business entity is a
Limited Liability Company (PT) with a total workforce of 166 people. For the
establishment and operation of the plant requires investment capital of IDR
2.092.672.534.756 and production costs of IDR 1.615.807.603.314. Based on the
feasibility analysis, this plant has a BEP of 26.35%, ROI of 20.29%, POT for 4,8
years, RON of 51.30%, and IRR of 33.251. From the results of economic analysis,
it can be concluded that the pre-design of phosphoric acid production plant from
phosphate rock and sulfuric acid by wet process is feasible. | en_US |
