Abstract
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a non-communicable disease that is still a world health problem with a prevalence of >10 percent of the general population globally. The prevalence of CKD in Southeast Asia is 12 percent, in Indonesia 12.5 percent, and in North Sumatra 0.33 percent. One of the causes of CKD is hypertension. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship of individual characteristics and hypertension with the incidence of Chronic Kidney Disease at RSUD Dr. RM. Djoelham, Binjai City. This research uses a cross sectional research design. The population in this study were all outpatients seeking treatment at the internal medicine clinic at Dr. RM. Djoelham Binjai. The sample in this study was 87 people taken using purposive sampling. Patient characteristics were measured using questionnaires and hypertension was seen through medical records. It was found that the proportion of CKD incidence was (48.3%). There is a relationship between education level (p=0.034), occupation (p=0.039), hypertension (p=0.004), salt consumption (p=0.048), and fast food consumption (p=0.021) with the incidence of CKD. There was no relationship between age (p=0.067), gender (p=0.362), and smoking (p=0.490) with the incidence of CKD. It is recommended for all patients, especially CKD sufferers, to adopt a healthy lifestyle by controlling and reducing daily salt consumption, fast food and stopping smoking. Hypertension sufferers should continue to take hypertension medication regularly and check their blood pressure regularly to keep their blood pressure stable to avoid complications and other future illnesses.
