Analysis of Prevention Factors and The Existence of Breeding Places with Malaria Incidence at Working Area of Sialang Buah Health Center
Abstract
Malaria is an infectious disease caused by parasites from the genus Plasmodium. Malaria is an acute or chronic infectious disease that can attack erythrocytes and can cause symptoms such as fever, chills, anemia and enlarged spleen. Malaria is still a health problem in endemic areas (tropical and subtropical). According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the malaria API in Indonesia in 2019 increased to 93 per 100,000 population. Meanwhile, the API for Sumatra province in 2022 will be 25 per 100,000 population. According to the health profile of North Sumatra in 2023, Serdang Bedagai district had 376 cases of malaria. Sialang Buah Health Center is one of the health centers in Serdang Bedagai Regency. The aim of this research is to analysis of prevention factors and the existence of breeding places with malaria incidence at working area of Sialang buah health center. The research method was carried out using the case control method. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and direct observation. Through the chi-square test, it was found that there was a significant relationship between the use of mosquito nets (p=0.401) and the use of wire mesh (p= 0.002) with the incidence of malaria. Meanwhile, it was found that there was no significant relationship between the use of mosquito repellent and the existence of breeding places and the incidence of malaria. Based on research, it is necessary to carry out health promotion regarding malaria prevention to increase public awareness, as well as the importance of carrying out health checks if you experience symptoms of malaria.
