dc.description.abstract | This research aims to uncover the moral values of loyalty present in Japanese society and the perspectives on the spiritual world represented through anime. The study employs the theories of literary sociology and moral approach to analyze the relationships between characters, culture, and spirituality in the anime Spirited Away. The research data were collected through literature reviews, visual text analysis, and observations of the main themes depicted in the anime. The first research result shows that the moral loyalty in Japanese society, such as loyalty to family, community, and social obligations, is reflected in the behavior of the main character, Chihiro. This is evident from Chihiro’s efforts to free her parents and assist other spirits despite facing various challenges. This loyalty aligns with traditional Japanese concepts such as Gorin and Gojo. The second research result reveals the Japanese perspective on spirits, rooted in Shinto and Buddhist teachings, represented in the interaction between humans and spiritual beings in the spirit world. The spirit world in Spirited Away portrays harmony, the cycle of life, and reverence for nature and spirituality, which form the foundation of Japanese beliefs. This research concludes that *Spirited Away* is not merely an animated work but also a profound reflection on moral loyalty and spirituality in Japanese culture, which remains relevant for study in the context of globalization and the shifting values of tradition. | en_US |
